    Market data is volatile, and can increase and decrease every year. With volatility, it is important to understand the underlying drivers. One way to do this practically is to ask for detail in the benchmarking report about year-over-year changes, by pay component. This isolates which pay component is driving volatility – a drop in cash, for example, may be driven by incumbent turnover.
